N-336, Request for a Hearing on a Decision in Naturalization Proceedings (Under Section 336 of the INA)
ALERT: On Jan. 30, 2024, USCIS announced a final rule, published in the Federal Register, that adjusts the fees required for most immigration applications and petitions. The new fees will be effective April 1, 2024.
Applications and petitions postmarked on or after April 1, 2024, must include the new fees or USCIS will not accept them.
What to Know About Sending Us Your Form
The new filing fee is effective for filings postmarked April 1, 2024, and later. If you are filing an acceptable prior form edition on or after April 1, 2024, you must include the new filing fee.

Filing your Form N-336 online
You must create a USCIS online account. Having an online account will also allow you to:
- Pay your filing fee online;
- Check the status of your case;
- Receive notifications and case updates;
- Respond to requests for evidence; and
- Manage your contact information, including updating your address.

Filing your Form N-336 by mail

When you submit your Form N-336 through the mail, we will mail you a USCIS Account Acceptance Notice with instructions on how to create a USCIS online account to track and manage your case. We will continue processing your application even if you choose not to create an online account. We will also continue to send you copies of notifications about your case by mail through the U.S. Postal Service.
You can request a hearing if your Form N-400 is denied after your eligibility interview, and if you believe you can overcome the grounds for denial.
You should file your Form N-336 within 30 calendar days of receiving the decision denying your Form N-400 (or within 33 calendar days if we mailed the decision to you). Generally, USCIS will reject a request that is not timely filed. USCIS will not refund the filing fee if Form N-336 is rejected because it was not timely filed. However, if you do not timely file your request for a hearing, but it meets the requirements for a motion to reopen or motion to reconsider, USCIS will reopen or reconsider your case and send you a decision.

If you file your Form N-336 online, you can pay your fee online.
If you file your Form N-336 by mail (paper), you can pay the fee with a money order, personal check, cashier’s check, or pay by credit card using Form G-1450, Authorization for Credit Card Transactions. If you pay by check, you must make your check payable to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
When you send a payment, you agree to pay for a government service. Filing and biometric services fees are final and non-refundable, regardless of any action we take on your application, petition, or request, or if you withdraw your request. Use our Fee Calculator to help determine your fee.
Pay each filing fee separately. We are transitioning to electronically processing immigration benefit requests, which requires us to use multiple systems to process your package. We may reject your entire package if you submit a single, combined payment for multiple forms.
If you filed Form N-400 as a member of the U.S. armed forces (under sections 328 or 329 of the INA) and we denied your application, you do not need to pay a fee to file Form N-336.

Complete all sections of the form. We will reject the form if these fields are missing:
- Family Name (Last Name)
- Date of Birth
- Address

E-Notification: If you want to receive an e-mail and/or text message that we have accepted your form at a USCIS lockbox, complete Form G-1145, E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance, and clip it to the first page of your form.
Attorney or representative: You may be represented, at no expense to the U.S. government, by an attorney or other authorized representative. Your representative must submit Form G-28, Notice of Entry or Appearance as Attorney or Representative, with your Form N-336. Your representative may also submit Form G-28 at the time of your interview.
